About Me

Hey there! My name is Rhoel, and welcome to my blog.

I created this website to help adults learning European Spanish.

I grew up in the Philippines speaking Filipino, English, and Ilocano. When I moved to Madrid in 2022 at the age of 28, I assumed learning Spanish would be relatively straightforward. Growing up around multiple languages, I didn’t expect it to be as challenging as it turned out to be.

I quickly discovered that learning a language as an adult is very different.

Like many learners, I tried just about everything—online courses, language apps, private tutors, podcasts, TV shows, books, and language exchanges. I spent years and money studying Spanish, yet I often felt stuck and frustrated by how slowly I was progressing.

Instead of giving up, I became curious about the learning process itself. Rather than focusing only on Spanish, I started focusing on how adults learn languages.

What I discovered changed the way I approached learning.

After applying those ideas to my own Spanish journey, I started making steady progress. Today, I use Spanish in my daily life in Madrid—from shopping at local markets and attending doctors’ appointments to handling paperwork and making small talk. Most importantly, improving my Spanish has opened up better job opportunities.

Basically, this website is where I share the resources that have helped me on my own journey, so you can have access to materials that can help you improve your Spanish as well.

You won’t find grammar-heavy lessons or complicated linguistic theories here. Instead, you’ll find Spanish audio lessons with transcripts designed to help adult learners build comprehension and become more comfortable using the language in real-life situations.

My goal is simple: to help other adults avoid some of the mistakes I made and make their language-learning journey a little easier.

Thanks for stopping by, and I hope something on this website helps you move one step closer to speaking European Spanish with confidence.

P.S.

If you’re curious to learn more about what I discovered about adult language learning, why adults learn differently from children, and why the resources on this website are designed specifically for adult learners, you can read my article, The Adult’s Guide to Learning European Spanish.
