Escenario: Una calle tranquila de Madrid por la mañana. Elena se encuentra con Mateo y aprovecha para pedirle su dirección y saber más sobre su barrio.

Title: Describing Your Neighborhood Characters: Elena and Mateo

Setting: A quiet street in Madrid in the morning. Elena runs into Mateo and takes the opportunity to ask for his address and learn more about his neighborhood.

Elena:
 ¡Hola, Mateo! ¿Qué tal? Tengo que enviarte la invitación para mi fiesta. NM: Hi, Mateo! How’s it going? I need to send you the invitation for my party. LT: Hi, Mateo! What such? I have that to send you the invitation for my party.
¿Cuál es tu dirección? NM: What’s your address? LT: Which is your address?
Mateo:
 Hola, Elena. Vivo en la calle Alcalá, número doce. NM: Hi, Elena. I live on Alcalá Street, number twelve. LT: Hi, Elena. I live in the street Alcalá, number twelve.
Elena:
 Ah, de acuerdo. Oye, cuéntame de tu barrio. NM: Ah, ok. Hey, tell me about your neighborhood. LT: Ah, of agreement. Listen, tell me of your neighborhood.
¿Cómo es tu barrio? ¿Es un sitio tranquilo? NM: What’s your neighborhood like? Is it a quiet place? LT: How is your neighborhood? Is it a place quiet?
Mateo:
 Sí, me gusta mucho. ¿Y tú? ¿Cómo de grande es tu barrio? NM: Yeah, I like it a lot. What about you? How big is your neighborhood? LT: Yes, me it pleases much. And you? How of big is your neighborhood?
El mío es bastante espacioso y cómodo. NM: Mine is quite spacious and comfortable. LT: The mine is quite spacious and comfortable.
Elena:
 El mío es pequeño, pero el tuyo suena genial. NM: Mine is small, but yours sounds great. LT: But the Park of the Retiro, where it is?
¿Cómo de bonito es el parque? NM: How nice is the park? LT: How of pretty is the park?
Mateo:
 Es precioso, aunque el parque no está cerca de mi casa. NM: It’s lovely, although the park isn’t close to my house. LT: It is precious, although the park not it is close of my house.
Hay que caminar unos diez minutos. NM: You have to walk about ten minutes. LT: There is that to walk some ten minutes.
Elena:
 Entiendo. ¿Hay otros sitios para pasear? NM: I see. Are there other places to go for a walk? LT: I understand. Are there other places for to walk?
Tu barrio no tiene muchas zonas verdes, ¿verdad? NM: Your neighborhood doesn’t have many green areas, right? LT: Your neighborhood not has many zones green, truth?
Mateo:
 Cierto, no hay muchas zonas verdes, pero el barrio tiene algunos parques pequeñitos. NM: True, there aren’t many green areas, but the neighborhood has a few small parks. LT: True, not there are much zones green, but the neighborhood has some parks tiny.
Pero prefiero hacer la compra que pasear. NM: But I prefer buying groceries over going for a walk. LT: But I prefer to do the purchase than to walk.
Entre mi casa y la parada de autobús está el mercado más popular de la zona. NM: Between my house and the bus stop is the most popular market in the area. LT: Between my house and the stop of bus is the market most popular of the zone.
Elena:
 ¡Qué bien! ¿Y hay opciones de ocio o deporte? NM: That’s great! And are there leisure or sports options? LT: What well! And are there options of leisure or sport?
Mateo:
 Sí, hay un cine al lado de un centro comercial muy moderno, NM: Yeah, there’s a movie theater next to a very modern shopping mall, LT: Yes, there is a cinema to the side of a center commercial very modern,
y la piscina municipal está delante de mi bloque. NM: and the public pool is in front of my building block. LT: and the pool municipal is in front of of my block.
Elena:
 ¡Madre mía, lo tienes todo a mano! NM: Goodness, you have everything close by! LT: Mother mine, it you have all to hand!
¿Hay muchos habitantes por allí? NM: Are there many residents around there? LT: There are much inhabitants through there?
Mateo:
 Muchos, sí. Los habitantes de esta zona suelen estar muy contentos, NM: A lot, yes. The residents in this area are usually very happy, LT: Many, yes. The inhabitants of this zone tend to be very content,
porque no hay muchos edificios altos, pero hay muchas plantas. NM: because there aren’t many tall buildings, but there are a lot of plants. LT: because not there are many buildings tall, but there are many plants.
Elena:
 ¿Y qué tal los servicios médicos? NM: And how are the medical services? LT: And what such the services medical?
Mateo:
 Pues muy bien. El hospital está a dos paradas de metro de mi casa NM: Well, really good. The hospital is two metro stops away from my house LT: Well very well. The hospital is to two stops of metro of my house
y está justo en frente de la estación de metro. NM: and it’s right in front of the metro station. LT: and is right in front of of the station of metro.
Elena:
 Está cerca. NM: It’s close. LT: It’s close.
Mateo:
 Sí. No está lejos de mi casa. NM: Yeah. It’s not far from my house. LT: Yes. Not it is far of my house.
Elena:
 Pues se vive genial ahí. Bueno, ya me voy. ¡Nos vemos el fin de semana! NM: Well, it’s great living there. Anyway, I’m heading off now. See you this weekend! LT: Well one lives great there. Good, already I go. Us we see the end of week!
Mateo:
 ¡Nos vemos! Y cuídate mucho. NM: See you! Take good care of yourself. LT: Us we see! And care yourself much.
